The Lancer Evolution is Mitsubishi's flagship sports car. Based only on the unibody of the domesticated Lancer sedan the Evo is a rally inspired most affordable turbocharged, all wheel drive, durable and finely tuned automobile.

The exterior design uses aerodynamics to create a deep sensation of continuous movement combined with an image of stylish boldness. The new Lancer Evolution features an advanced and aggressive front face new to Mitsubishi Motors sedans, combining an inverted-slant nose with a trapezoidal front grill to achieve efficient engine cooling with aerodynamic performance.

The lower part of the rear bumper uses a diffuser form to improve aerodynamics and give a stylish accent to the rear view. The rear combination lamps use a kick-form lens that promotes a smoother airflow.
The new engine is lighter returns better environmental performance and has better response than its 4G63 predecessor. New features of the powertrain include a die-cast aluminum cylinder block, head cover and chain case as well as a titanium-aluminum turbo.Lancer Evolution X is powered by a new turbocharged engine that adds a high-performance turbocharger to the 4B11-type 2.0-liter 4-cylinder 16-valve DOHC MIVEC unit used in the Galant Fortis. Developing more power over the full rev range, this engine generates more torque at 422 Nm (43.0 kg-m)/3500 rpm and has better response than its 4G63 predecessor. The new engine is also lighter and returns better environmental performance.

It also features Mitsubishi's new sequential semi-automatic six speed SST twin-clutch transmission with steering-mounted magnesium alloy shift paddles. It has replaced the Tiptronic automatic transmission hence the SST version replaced the GT-A version. A five speed manual gearbox will also be available.

The Evolution X went on sale October 1, 2007 in Japan January 2008 in the USA February in Canada and in March 2008 in the UK. The Twin Clutch SST version was available in Japan from November 2007. Europe will follow with sales in May, GSR and MR version included premium Package. The introduction of the 2010 MR-Touring moved the car even further upscale. Leather and a Moonroof became standard while revising the rear spoiler to just a lip spoiler.
