2013 Lexus ES 350.
The Lexus GS is a series of mid-size/executive cars sold by Lexus, the luxury division of Toyota.
The 2013 ES models look pretty conservative on the outside—the new Lexus hourglass grille and a newfound curviness at the rear flanks are the exceptions—there's a lot to love inside. The ES's cabin has been completely redesigned, with a new sense of airiness and spaciousness thanks to a shelf-like horizontal design, and corners that have been pushed out (in a sort of anti-cockpit design). It resembles what Lexus did with its GS sport sedans, only it feels better done here, with the navigation system's screen fitting nicely mid-contour.
Standard equipment includes 17-inch wheels, LED running lamps, foglamps, a sunroof, heated mirrors, keyless ignition/entry, cruise control, dual-zone automatic climate control, eight-way power front seats (with two-way adjustable lumbar), a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, vinyl upholstery, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, Safety Connect emergency communications, Bluetooth phone connectivity and an eight-speaker sound system with a six-CD changer, satellite radio, an auxiliary audio jack and an iPod/USB audio interface.
The 2013 Lexus ES 350 is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 268 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission are standard. In Edmunds performance testing, the ES 350 went from zero to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds, which is on par with its competitors. EPA-estimated fuel economy is 21 mpg city/31 mpg highway and 24 mpg combined.
The suspension is comprised of MacPherson struts up front and dual-link MacPherson struts in the rear, while the level of damping is fixed. The steering is traditional rack-and-pinion, now with electric assist, and there are disc brakes at all four corners.
Standard safety gear includes ABS brakes, electronic brake-force distribution, brake-assist, emergency brake signal, vehicle stability control with electric power-steering co-operative control, traction control and a radar-controlled pre-collision safety system that has active distance and speed-measuring control. There are also 10 airbags inside the car plus design features for pedestrian safety.
Standard wheels are 17-inch alloys, but our test model was fitted with optional 18-inch wheels wrapped in 225/45VR18 Michelin Primacy MXM4 all-season tires. The curb weight of the ES350 is 3,549 pounds, with 61-percent of its mass over the front wheels.
