2014 Harley-Davidson SuperLow 1200T
According to Harley, the new bike a mid 2014 introduction with the simple aim of getting more people to enjoy long-haul riding—weighs a claimed 118 pounds less than the company’s lightest Big Twin tourer. Perhaps more significant, the SuperLow 1200T, which features a black powdercoated Evolution 1200 V-twin mounted in a SuperLow chassis, has ergonomics that are calibrated for a rider between 5-foot-1 and 5-foot-7, meaning people of that size should have no trouble reaching the ground, handlebar or foot controls. The seat height, for the record, is a friendly 26.1 inches.
“It’s been a fantastic six months for us,” said Matt Levatich, Harley-Davidson Motor Company President and Chief Operating Officer. “First Project RUSHMORE, then Harley-Davidson Street, now the new SuperLow 1200T and Low Rider models – all are the result of being customer led and delivering riders the technical prowess and rebellious spirit that they want infused in each and every new Harley.”
SuperLow 1200T is powered by an air-cooled, Evolution, 1,202 cc, engine which generates a maximum power of 67 hp at 5750 rpm and 96 Nm of torque at 3750 rpm. The unit delivers an average fuel consumption of 4.9 l/100 km.
The SuperLow 1200T features the same easy-handling chassis dynamics originally developed for the SuperLow 883. Fork angle, wheel sizes and radial tyres were engineered as a package to reduce steering effort and provide responsive handling to help rider and machine glide through corners. Anti-lock Braking System and H-D Smart Security System with a proximity-based security fob and keyless ignition are also offered as standard equipment.
The 14-in. polycarbonate windshield is adjustable for height and easily removable via four spiffy chrome clamps. No tools required here. The wind protection is good from the upper-chest down of a six foot rider. The black vinyl saddlebags, each able to hold 21 quarts, look remarkably leather-like and can be locked via a separate key. Although the bags are easily removable, the shocks wear a matt-black finish that most riders will want to leave covered. The seat matched the bags and was comfortable.
The front suspension is tuned to offer a comfortable ride when carrying luggage or a passenger, while the rear suspension allows preload adjustability without the need for tools or removing the lockable black vinyl saddlebags.
“The SuperLow 1200T is a new motorcycle driven by the voice of our customers, and by customer action,” says Jennifer Gersch, Harley-Davidson Product Planning Manager. “Many riders seeking an entry point to the touring experience have been putting together a bike like this on their own. We’ve added ergonomic adjustments and a selection of touring accessories to a motorcycle platform that is already popular with our customers. They can tour on a great-looking motorcycle that offers performance and inspires confidence, while experiencing those life-defining moments that can only be encountered on the open road.”
