Spark Renault SRT 01E.

                                      Spark Renault SRT 01E.

The Spark-Renault SRT-01E is built by new French company Spark Racing Technology, The SRT_01E's monocoque chassis is made from carbon fiber and aluminum by Dallara. The original plan was to make the car's shape create more exciting races as it was "aerodynamically designed to aid overtaking," Formula E said in the press release announcing the car (available below). McLaren Electronics Systems is providing the electric motor, gearbox and electronics; the batteries and BMS come from Williams Advanced Engineering. Starting in Formula E's second season, the cars will have access to Qualcomm Halo wireless charging technology.
In September the joint venture team of Spark-Renault showed us its all-electric Formula racer the SRT_01E, at the Frankfurt Motor Show. This week the team let the electric racer out on track to the east of Paris, as part of its testing before racing begins in 2014.
The car’s electric motor delivers 200 kW (or 270 hp), driving the rear wheels. Full output power will be available during qualifying sessions, but for the actual race, power will be limited to 133 kW (or 180 hp), with a ‘push-to-pass’ mode bringing drivers temporary access to the full 270 hp output, the idea being to combine range with overtaking opportunities.
The vehicle weighs in at a minimum 800 kg with the driver on board, the battery accounting for 200 kg in that mix. Performance simulations indicate that the car’s 0-100 km/h time is three seconds, while top speed is limited to 200 km/h for maximum safety in urban racing.
At high speed the sound produced by one SRT_01E will be approximately 80 decibels more than an average petrol road car which produces around 70db. Meanwhile and purely for reasons of safety an artificial sound will be used when the cars enter the pit lane to ensure they can be heard by mechanics and officials. This will be produced with the aid of an expert sound designer.
