Hyundai Genesis 2013.
Hyundai Genesis 2013.
The Hyundai Genesis is a full-size luxury car produced by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai since 2008. It was initially introduced as a concept car in New York International Auto Show. The refreshed 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe now looks more aggressive, but the real story is under the hood, with new powertrains that pack more punch and a few more gears, as well. The V6 Genesis Coupe now features direct injection, while the turbocharged four has a new turbo and intercooler setup.
The Genesis can be had with a 333-hp 3.8-liter V6, a 385-hp or a 429-hp 5.0-liter V8. Power is sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission that features manual sequential shift capability. The all-aluminum 2.0-liter four-cylinder now utilizes a twin-scroll turbocharger and a 53-percent-larger intercooler to produce a formidable 274 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque.Hyundai engineers point to a new stainless-steel integrated exhaust manifold and the integrated turbo housing that weighs less and dissipates heat more efficiently while also improving efficiency and emissions.
The Genesis features electronic stability control, sight airbags, and even active head restraints. The 3.8 Technology and R-Spec models offer a lane departure warning system to help you stay in your lane via a warning light and a ding. All Genesis models include eight sensors on the front and rear bumpers, and a rear-mounted camera to aid in parking and backing up.
The leather-upholstered sports seats are thickly bolstered, and space up front is excellent, with none of that bath-tub feeling which afflicts other sports cars. The back seats can actually fit average-sized adults astoundingly enough but it’s tight and your scalp will be a few millimetres from the rear glass, baking in the sun. Even more surprising is how long the boot floor is, constrained only by a small opening. Very spacious, but it should’ve had a liftback lid instead.
The skin of the Genesis is largely carryover from the 2012 model year, where it underwent a slight refresh. Included on the 2013 model are LED running lights, dual exhausts tucked into the lower rear fascia, and LED lamps at the rear.
Every Genesis comes with Bluetooth, automatic climate control, leather upholstery, and satellite radio and a USB port. The V-6 version can be optioned up with premium and technology packages to approach the comprehensive features found on V-8 cars, including the fantastic Lexicon audio system. On the R-Spec, everything is standard--but there's no option for all-wheel drive on any Genesis. It's a small price to pay for the Genesis' bargain sticker, which begins in the mid-$30,000 range, or for its excellent warranty coverage.
