Spyker C8 Aileron Spyder.
Spyker C8 Aileron Spyder.
The Spyker C8 is a sports car produced by the Dutch automaker Spyker Cars. The style of the Spyker C8 Aileron’s headlightsis particularly eye-catching as they flow seamlessly from the body design.Latest-generation LEDs are used for the front and rear turn indicators and the sidelights within the sharply-styled headlight units. The first thing you should know about the Aileron is that it’s effectively a brand new car only around 20 percent of the previous generation C8 survives in the new model. The big change is an all-new but still aluminium chassis boasting a much wider front track and an extra 150mm in the wheelbase compared with the previous C8 models which incidentally continue in production for a while known internally as ‘short-wheelbase cars’.
In order to enhance the aerodynamic performance of the car several changes in styling were made such as stretching the canopy backwards. Most of the shark-like gills have been abandoned which results in a cleaner smoother appearance. The front end is now characterised by a larger grille that gives additional cooling. Also the rear diffuser was redesigned for improved functionality. An extra spoiler has been placed under the diffuser providing additional downforce to boost the ground effect produced by the diffuser.
Inside the car gets a completely new dash which retains all the beautiful detailing Spykers have become famous for but now includes an LCD screen sitting between the two main dials to display things such as sat-nav directions music details and gear selection. There’s more room inside this leather-lined cockpit too, with an extra 120mm of shoulder room, seat runners that can move further back and a fully adjustable steering column.
Originally, C8 Spyder sported Audi 4.2L V8 engine with 90 angle between both the blocks. This naturally aspirated engine had top power output of 400 hp.Top torque generation from the power plant was 480 Nm while top rpm was 7500. It sported sequential or 6-speed manual transmission with no electronic intervention. As optional feature, it sported limited slip differential and switchable ASR for traction control system. Performance-wise, C8 Spyder managed 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds with 300 km/h top speed.
According to reports from the company's native Netherlands Spyker is planning on keeping the C8 Aileron Spyder very exclusive with a production run of just 99 units. That's a mighty limited edition, but there's more according to the same report quoting CEO Victor Muller Spyker will be ditching the Audi-sourced 4.2-liter V8 for the 6.2-liter supercharged LS9 from the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1.
