2014 Honda Grom

                                         2014 Honda Grom

The 2014 Honda Grom is a fresh, new way to add some fun, practicality, independence and style to your life. Fun: This new machine is a blast to ride, offering all the excitement of a full-sized motorcycle but in a package that just about anyone old enough to have a license can handle. Practical: The Grom's thrifty Honda engine means you can run it on pocket change, and you can park it just about anywhere too.The 2014 Grom has a 1.45 gallon tank that features a proprietary split structure which allowed Honda to tuck the PGM-FI system inside as well. The Honda Grom is an entry-level bike that is packed full of fun and attitude and a ton of features that make this an all-around blast to runon.

There’s just something about this small bike that fires up the riding imagination. The Grom is quite roomy overall, with plenty of space for my 5-foot-11 frame. Distance between the 30.1-inch-high seat and footpegs was comfortable, while the reach to the bike’s mid height handlebar felt natural and relaxed. Not only is the bike large enough to transport a full-sized adult, its seat is also long enough to accommodate a passenger.

This bike uses an air-cooled 125cc Single-cylinder engine. Fuel injection makes for effortless cold starts and smooth power delivery. The 9.3:1 compression ratio is low enough to put it in the bottom 10% of all 2014 naked bikes. A higher compression ratio is desirable because it means an engine can do the same amount of work with less fuel, leading to increased efficiency and power for a given engine size (the only downside is that using low octane fuel can damage the engine). This motor is undersquare, with a cylinder bore and stroke of 52.4 x 57.9mm (the stroke, or length, of the cylinder is greater than its bore, or width). Undersquare engines make better torque down low in the rev range, but typically don't produce as much power as an oversquare engine of the same displacement would.

The motor sips low cost 87-octane from a 1.45-gallon fuel tank netting a range in excess of 100 miles, Power is put to the tarmac through a manual, cable actuated clutch and four-speed gearbox. Despite its outwardly small dimensions including a 47.4-inch wheelbase and ultra-low 30.1-inch seat height, when seated at the controls the Grom actually feels like a real motorcycle. It offers a well proportioned rider's triangle that doesn’t put undue stress on an adult rider’s knees or wrists,It also comes outfitted with passenger footpegs so a friend can tag along, too. Just remember that maximum rated payload is 300 pounds.

The Honda Grom has been available in Asian markets, known as the MSX125, for several years but has just been made available in the United States market in 2013.

The Grom offers many engineering advances found in much larger sports bikes including fuel injection, digital instrument cluster, inverted forks, LED tail lights, and disc brakes. All for a MSRP of $2,999.
