Mini Rocketman 2014.
Presented at the Geneva Motor Show, the Mini Rocketman could be produced on a large scale in the near future. Based on an aluminum chassis with a carbon body, it will use the technologies used by BMW for its future electric city car, the i3.
The Mini Rocketman design adds many new forms to the company’s vocabulary including inverted-stirrup taillights, LED headlamps with bright halos. The LEDs will also glow blue, orange or red and a transparent roof through which the Union Jack–patterned roof structure is visible. The top half of the tailgate is hinged at the center of the roof and uses the diagonals of the Union Jack as cut lines, while the lower half slides out like a drawer, complete with an organizer. The 18-inch wheels are gorgeous, but positively show-car extreme in proportion to the body. As cool as it looks in the daylight, though, nighttime is showtime for the Rocketman, with lights tucked into the chrome beltline illuminating the interior, and much of the roof’s Union Jack outlined in white light strips.
"The innovative character of the study is defined by the systematic application of lightweight design principles and a pure-bred interior geared to maximum driving fun and unbeatable variability. A carbon spaceframe construction, whose striking surface structure is visible at the front end of the car, around its doors and in the interior, forms the basis for a weight-minimising construction. Indeed, the MINI Rocketman Concept offers the ideal platform for achieving outstanding efficiency."
The new MINI Cooper will go on sale in the spring, with a starting price from £15,300 the current one costs £14,900 – while the Cooper D sees a similar hike to £16,450 and the Cooper S starts at £18,650. Those price rises reflect around a 2% increase.
Rocketman's wheelbase is extended by 28mm and a track widened by 42mm at the front and 34mm at the rear. The net effect is a car that is not only more spacious inside but should ride and handle better, too.
The Rocketman will be powered either by an electric motor or by a 3 cylinder turbo petrol or diesel engine. About the electric Rocketman, the rumor could be confirmed by the tests on electric mobility and its uses, carried out by Mini with the Mini E.
MINI is equipped to help you circumvent potential trouble on the road. Of course, with its strong cockpit frame, smart, dual-stage airbags and sophisticated emergency systems, a MINI is also superbly outfitted to help keep you safe and sound if trouble is unavoidable.
