Ducati 1198.
The Ducati 1198 is a sport bike made by Ducati from 2009 to 2011.Ducati has released two special edition motorcycles that will use the new 1198R designation. The first new model is the same Troy Bayliss replica that was available last year (sans a new gas tank), but Ducati has also released the 2010 Ducati 1198R Corse Special Edition.
Ducati has delivered the goods with a 2010 model that will probably be regarded as an all-time classic in 2030. The $39,995 1198 R Corse is a special edition of the 1198, with mostly cosmetic changes. That’s a testament to the soundness of the 1198 platform, but the bike does come with a ‘race kit’ for true power junkies.
The Troy Bayliss edition was updated with a new aluminum gas tank that saves 2lbs and adds .66 gallons of capacity. According to Ducati, the change to the aluminum tank was because of customer feedback in the North American market.
The Ducati 1198 has a powerful liquid-cooled 1198cc L-Twin engine that is more refined than the 1198.4cc Testastretta Evoluzione unit powering the 1198 models. Thanks to that, the four new bikes benefit of 170hp at 9,750rpm and of an incredible 97lb-ft of torque at 8,000rpm.
For the 1198s, Ducati had the elliptical throttle bodies of the Marelli electronic fuel injection system enlarged with 13.3 per cent compared to the 1098 , while the new models get an aggressive 2-1-2, exhaust equipped with a catalytic converter and two lambda probes, ensuring smooth engine performance and helping meet Euro3 regulations.
